What a salute to our Simpson County Veterans! On behalf of the Franklin Simpson Educational Excellence Foundation, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to everyone who played a part in making our first ever “Walk, Run, Roll 5K” at F-S Community Park an incredible success. Although it was a brisk November morning, 145 participants and countless volunteers braved the cold in support of our veterans.
Our opening ceremonies were a touching tribute led by Captain Jeff Grimes and assisted by Lexie Lyles who sang the National Anthem and Boy Scout Troop #47 members Jack Dobbs and Rob Fowler who presented the colors. Special thanks to all of the veterans’ groups and auxiliary organizations who were our course spotters along with the FSHS dance and cross country teams, and the Simpson County Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution who manned the water station. We would also like to give a special word of thanks to Terry Joiner and the FS Parks Board for use of the amazing park and to the FS Ambulance Service for being there…just in case.
Our event would have been impossible without the support of our community sponsors: Evergreen Tax Service, Forshee Real Estate & Auction Co., Franklin-Simpson Industrial Authority, Steve Marr—Edward Jones Investments, Ballard-Burton, LLC, Key Oil, Harding Benefits Consulting, Bill Harris, David & Michele Cummins, Bob & Deanna May.Additionally, our veterans’ organizations went above and beyond with both sponsorships and volunteer support: Harristown American Legion & Auxiliary, Am Vets & Auxiliary, VFW and Auxiliary, American Legion & Auxiliary, Cooties & Auxiliary. A huge, heartfelt THANK YOU to Liz Burris who coordinated all of the veterans’ organizations and the opening ceremony.
We would also like to thank our in-kind sponsors: Franklin-Simpson Rehabilitation and Nursing Center for providing the snacks, Army National Guard for the awesome goody bags, D & M Florist for the coffee bar, JB Distributors, US Bank, and Franklin Favorite-WFKN.
The FSEEF board of directors for their assisted with sponsorships worked hard during the week before and day of the race. Shout out to Tanner and Connor Smith who stepped up and helped their mom out! Proceeds will benefit scholarships and educational programs supported by the Franklin Simpson Educational Excellence Foundation. It truly took an army of people, but the outcome was fantastic. Thanks to everyone who supported our veterans through this event!
