Welcome!

Welcome to the new site of the Franklin-Simpson Educational Excellence Foundation!  We are a community-based, non-profit organization whose goal is to encourage innovative instruction to meet the needs of students in the Franklin-Simpson School System.  We award grants to local educational entities based on innovation and need.

Our newest project is launching the Franklin-Simpson Alumni Association.  Our goal is to bring alumni together promote education in Franklin and Simpson County.  We see our F-S graduates as a valuable resource who can make a difference within our school system by sharing their life experiences and expertise with current students.  We also want to bring our alumni together socially and through this website to keep you abreast of activities both within the school system and with fellow alumni.

2009 SCHOLARSHIPS AWARDED

Congratulations to Brittany Moore, recipient of the 2009 Franklin Simpson Educational Excellence Foundation scholarship in the amount of $2000.  Brittany is the daughter of Sindy and Scott Crabtree.  She plans to attend the University of Kentucky and major in education with a minor in math.  Elizabeth Wakefield and Jennifer Gregory received $500 each as co-runners up.  Elizabeth is the daughter of Frank and Sarah Wakefield.  She will be attending Center College in the fall majoring in math and minoring in education.  Jennifer is the daughter of Thomas  and Lisa Gregory and will attend Bellarmine College to double major in psychology and biology.

Jordan Jones, son of Randy and Melinda Jones is the 2009 F-S Alumni Association scholarship in the amount of $5000.  Jordan will be attending Western Kentucky University to major in engineering and minor in math.

2009 Grants and Donations

The FSEEF has been busy providing funding for worthy projects in our community.  During the first quarter of 2009, the following funds have been dispensed into Simpson County.

Classroom of the Month--$250 stipend for use in classroom
        January--Rose Hullet, FSMS
        February--Beth Wright, SES
        March--Jeremy Smith, FSHS
FSHS Swim Boosters--$375
FSHS--$2500 for Adobe Suite to be used district-wide
FSMS--$2700 for drum set to be used in music/chorus
FSMS--$500 for math manipulatives
FSMS--$525 for math department
F-S Softball Boosters--$150
F-S Baseball Boosters--$200
Imagination Library--$1500
FSMS--$1000 for leadership class video package
Project Graduation--$2000  ($1000 scholarship, $1000 donation)

We are fortunate to be able to assist these programs in providing opportunities for our Simpson County students!

 

 

 

2009 EXECUTIVE OFFICERS

We are proud to announce that three of our 2008 board members have been elected as executive officers for 2009.  Therese Switzer Rushing--President, Anne Hughes Mann--Vice President, and Angela Vaughn--Sec./Treasurer.  These three women bring strong leadership skills and an insightful knowledge regarding education from the both the business and parental perspectives.  We appreciate their willingness to volunteer for these positions and to lead the FSEEF into another year.

FSEEF Office Relocated & New Email Address

We are proud to announce that the FSEEF & F-S Alumni Association office has relocated to 102 Fitzgerald Court, Franklin KY.  Our mailing address will remain the same:  PO Box 94, Franklin KY 42135 as will the telephone number--270-586-8018.  Our emaill address will also change to fseef@comcast.net.  Please accept our apologies for any lapse in service during the next couple of weeks due to the move.  We are planning Alumni After Hours for 2009 and will update this site as soon as those dates are established. 

We wish all of our Alumni Association members health and happiness in 2009, and look forward to a prosperous year of growth and excitement.

New Technology for FSHS English class

In an effort to make English more relevant to FSHS English students, Mrs. Jan Swisher introduced blogging into her English classroom using the Mac notebook.  Students bought into this "trial run" leading Mrs. Swisher to request a Mac notebook and document camera for her English classes.  The FSEEF board is pleased to present Mrs. Swisher with $2,200 to implement this project long term and remain on the "cutting edge" of English instruction.  Congratulations, Mrs. Swisher!!

Lincoln Elementary Receives $700

Mrs. Amanda Hughes, special education teacher at Lincoln Elementary, received $700 to initiate a video modeling program within her special education classes.  Highly researched and proven effective for students with autism, video modeling is a repetitive behavior modification process that focuses on appropriate behaviors/responses to social stimuli. FSEEF is pleased to provide Mrs. Hughes with the funds needed to begin this program.

FSHS Math Department Awarded Grant

At the request of Robin Fowler, FSHS math department, the FSEEF board of directors awarded $5,000 for the purchase of document cameras and Smartview technology.  Both of these technologies can be used in conjunction with the Intelligent Classroom already installed at the high school to enhance student learning.  The document cameras will provide students with an immediate, digital view of student work and replaces the traditional overhead projector.  Smartview technology will allow teachers to demonstrate use of graphic calculators on the screen as well as immediately providing the student with graphic information.  Congratulations to the FSHS math department!  We look forward to seeing this technology in place soon.

IMAGINATION LIBRARY ROLLS INTO FRANKLIN

On February 12, over 150 Simpson County preschoolers attending the Imagination Library Celebration at Franklin Elementary School to read with Dora, Blue and Clifford the Big Red Dog.  The children also registered for the Imagination Library program which is cosponsored by the Franklin Simpson Educational Excellence Foundation, Franklin Rotary Club, and Simpson County Schools.  Volunteers from the Franklin Simpson High School and Middle School Beta Clubs were readers, characters and leaders.

By registering for Imagination Library, children may receive a FREE, age-appropriate book each month.  Books will be delivered to the child's home within 6-8 weeks.  Research proves that having books in the home increase a child's ability to read at an early age.

Thank you to the Franklin-Simpson community for receiving the Imagination Library program with such enthusiasm.  Enrollment is ongoing by calling the Family Resource Center at 270-586-2007 or by going online to www.dollysimaginationlibrary.com and following the links for new users.  Community organizations such as the Health Department, Goodnight Library, Child Support Office and Community Action also have brochures and registration information available in their offices.
